We are now looking for an experienced Compliance Engineer to join our Quality, Environment & Product Compliance department on a 14-month parental leave replacement.
This is a unique opportunity for a compliance professional with a strong background in chemistry and materials science to influence future products, support sustainability ambitions, and contribute to the phase-out of substances of concern across Volvo Penta's product portfolio.
The Role
You will evaluate the impact of new and emerging legislation, assess compliance risks and opportunities, and support the business in transforming regulatory requirements into practical and sustainable solutions.
Working across the entire product lifecycle, you will support product development projects, assess compliance with new designs and technologies, and secure the technical evidence needed to demonstrate conformity with applicable legislation.
You will also collaborate closely with local chemical coordinators at manufacturing and test and verification sites, supporting Volvo Penta's chemical management and continuously improving our ways of working.
In addition, you will join a cross-functional network of specialists working proactively to identify, assess, and phase out substances of concern from our products, helping shape the materials and technologies of the future.
Key Responsibilities
Act as subject matter expert within substance, material, and chemical compliance. Assess the technical and business impact of existing and emerging legislation. Support product development projects in demonstrating compliance with legal substance and material requirements. Review supplier declarations, material data, and technical documentation to support product declarations and declarations of conformity. Support and develop Volvo Penta's chemical management processes together with local chemical coordinators. Participate in cross-functional teams to phase out substances of concern and implement sustainable alternatives. Support stakeholders across engineering, purchasing, supplier quality, manufacturing, testing, and sustainability functions.Who Are You?

You have:
A university degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience within substance compliance, material compliance, chemical management, or similar areas. Very good knowledge of regulations such as REACH, RoHS, TSCA, CLP, POPs, or similar regulatory frameworks. Excellent communication skills in English.As a person, you are a hands-on doer who enjoys taking ownership, building networks, and driving change. You combine technical expertise with the ability to engage stakeholders and create momentum across organizational boundaries.
