Risk Manager – Financial Crime / AML & KYC

For our client, we are looking for an experienced Risk Manager within Financial Crime to provide risk advisory support to the business within Economic Crime Prevention.

We are looking for a consultant with strong experience in risk management combined with AML/KYC and Financial Crime, preferably from banking or another highly regulated financial environment.


About the Assignment

The consultant will act as a trusted risk advisor to senior business stakeholders and support the organization in identifying, assessing and managing financial crime and fraud-related risks.

The role has a strong 1st Line of Defence (1LoD) focus and includes risk assessments, control design

and effectiveness, findings and incident management, regulatory advisory and risk reporting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, define and manage Financial Crime risks covering areas such as AML, KYC, CTF, sanctions and PEP
  • Translate Financial Crime policies and regulatory requirements into practical risk frameworks and controls
  • Conduct and facilitate Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA)
  • Facilitate workshops with business stakeholders and challenge risk assessments and ratings
  • Identify emerging Financial Crime risks arising from new products, customer segments, geographies and regulatory developments
  • Review the design and operating effectiveness of 1LoD Financial Crime controls
  • Assess controls against regulatory requirements and internal policies
  • Support and challenge control owners in developing appropriate and measurable controls
  • Support maintenance of Financial Crime risk and control frameworks
  • Manage findings and issues raised by Compliance, Internal Audit and regulatory authorities
  • Coordinate remediation activities and track findings through to closure
  • Support Financial Crime incident management, including root cause analysis, impact assessments and corrective actions
  • Provide Financial Crime risk advice to business managers and senior stakeholders
  • Support risk assessments relating to new products, services and strategic initiatives
  • Support preparations for regulatory inspections, Compliance reviews and Internal Audit
  • Develop and communicate Financial Crime risk reporting, including KRIs, control results, issues and RCSA outputs
  • Translate complex risk information into clear management-level recommendations
  • Monitor relevant EU and local Financial Crime regulatory developments and translate these into actionable guidance


Required Experience

  • Strong professional experience within Risk Management
  • Experience within Financial Crime / Financial Crime Prevention
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of AML
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of KYC
  • Experience with risk and control frameworks in a regulated environment
  • Experience conducting or facilitating RCSAs
  • Experience assessing the design and effectiveness of controls
  • Experience managing risk findings, issues, remediation and/or operational incidents
  • Strong understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model, particularly 1LoD risk management
  • Experience working with senior business stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to influence and challenge stakeholders without direct authority
  • Experience from banking, financial services or another highly regulated environment
  • Strong written and spoken English
